Solid Waste Equipment Operator for CITY OF BRYAN (Bryan, TX)

Job Summary:
This position operates a heavy motorized truck for the collection of garbage. Also, operates a large street sweeper or other heavy equipment to ensure the clearance of debris from roadways and rights-of-ways.

Responsibilities Include:
– Operates side loaders, front-end loaders and street sweepers.
– Operates mechanical attachments and equipment on vehicles.
– Assists in the maintenance, cleaning and fueling of equipment; performs minor repairs and reports the need for major repairs.
– Provides training to lower level solid waste staff in the operation and maintenance of equipment when necessary.
– Performs related duties as required.
– Responds regularly and promptly to work

Knowledge and Skills:
– Safely and effectively operate large trucks, equipment, and city vehicles.
– Read manuals, instructions, and road signs.
– Perform work independently based upon broad instructions and general supervision.
– Communicate both verbally and in writing with various departments, contractors and citizens concerning job-related tasks and assignments.
– Interpret and abide by City and departmental rules, regulations and requirements.
– Remain constantly alert and aware of any workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.

Minimum Requirements:
– High School diploma/GED.
– At least three (3) years of related work experience performing “handyman” or general laborer duties.
– Texas Class C driver’s license w/ good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system. Must have the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial driver’s license within 30 days of employment.

Pay Between $14.15 / HR and $15.85 / HR
Additional Pay Details Final compensation based on qualifications and experience.
